The Dunes of Piscinas, in the municipality of Arbus in south-western Sardinia, are among the largest living dunes in Europe. 'Living' because they are constantly changing shape due to the wind's influence. With the rain falling only in winter, a particular type of vegetation, reminiscent of desert areas, called garrigue, grows there.
The area of the dunes, called 'Costa Verde', is still little visited by tourists. It has therefore managed to retain a certain silent and isolated, yet fascinating charm. Taking advantage of this relative unspoiltness, a few Sardinian deer can be found on the mainland. In addition, caretta caretta turtles, a delicate species, lay their eggs on the coast. This is a location that will please those seeking relaxation and those who want to explore an area still little known.
