Domus de Janas Roccia dell’Elefante

Centuries, wind and rain have modelled the Domus de Janas dell'Elefante, which today has the shape of a pachyderm. The rust-red colour of the rock is mixed with the white of the lichens that have chosen it as their home.

Located near the municipality of Castelsardo in northern Sardinia, it houses a burial complex (Domus de Janas, literally 'house of fairies') dating back to the Nuragic period, 2500 years ago.

Two rooms have been found and one of them is in excellent condition. On the wall there is an engraving of a bull's head, which is a common symbol of these structures. It was believed to accompany the dead with strength and virtue.
