The Domus de Janas Sa Domu 'e S'Orcu is located near the town of Sanluri in south-central Sardinia. Despite its large size, it was discovered by chance by a farmer while digging the earth. It is composed of large vertical stones called “menhirs” and used for sacred sites, such as the Domus de Janas. These host a Nuragic necropolis dating back a good 3500 thousand years.
The structure from above takes the form of a bull's head, venerated as a sacred animal by the Mediterranean peoples. It was believed that its strength would protect the dead on their eternal journey.
