Inhabited for only a thousand years from 3,000 to 2000 B.C., the Domus de Janas of Montessu were only discovered in the 1970s. They are located in the village of Villaperucciu in southern Sardinia and are one of the largest nuragic complexes on the island.
There are in fact no less than 40 Domus de Janas and they are characterised by the intricate system of corridors that connect them. Among the many, the “Tomba de Is Proccus” is surprising for the three holes in the wall that resemble a face when the sun's rays filter through.
In the Tomb of the Spirals there is a fake door carved in the wall, symbolising the passage to the eternal world of the dead.
